Thomas McGinley
Who am I?
I am a senior computer science student at the University of Dayton.
Prior to UD, I attended Sinclair Community College where I earned an Associate Degree in computer science.
When I can, I like working on my passion project; a new game built from the Pokémon Emerald engine.
I am very family-oriented and love spending time with my daughter.
What are my skills?
I am proficient in Python, Go, and Java as well as being familiar with C/C++, Bash, and some assembly languages.
I work with Kubernetes, Docker, and YAML files in my professional life, and am currently working on standing up my own Kubernetes cluster for personal use.
With Kubernetes, I have acquired familiarity with many open-source projects like Prometheus, Headlamp, and OpenSearch.
I have lots of experience with the engineering design process and find myself using it in
my computer science classes quite a bit to solve programming problems. I custom build drones in my free
time which has given me a lot of practice with electronics and soldering. In my high school engineering
class, I spent countless hours learning machining and shop practices.
What is my biggest opportunity for growth?
My biggest struggle has always been with anxiety.
Although I find it sometimes difficult to begin something new, I am committed to learning new things.
By working on more and more projects, my confidence is boosted and I can work to overcome some anxieties.
What are my short term goals?
For the next few years, my goal is to graduate with a bachelor's degree in computer science.
I currently work for Awetomaton, working on government contracts.
My professional goal at this time is to attain a DOD security clearance.
What are my long term dreams?
My dream is to work in the video game development industry. I love making games and want my skills to go
towards giving people entertainment that leaves a lasting impression. As long as what I'm doing makes
the world a net better place, I'll be happy!
